What is Misleading Price?

The Misleading Price Policy aims to ensure all pricing information shown in TikTok Shop content is accurate, transparent, and consistent with the price displayed on the product listing page. A misleading price occurs when the price promoted in a video or livestream is lower than the actual price shown on the TikTok Shop product page. This includes situations where:
  • The creator mentions or displays a discounted price that is not reflected on the product listing.
  • A price tag, sticker, or on-screen text shows an outdated or incorrect amount.
  • The content visually or verbally suggests a lower deal or special offer that is not currently available.
Top Tip: Always use a disclaimer to remind viewers that prices may change, and that the final price is always shown on the product detail page.

Why do we need to have this policy?

Price accuracy is essential for building trust between creators, sellers, and shoppers. When the price shown in content does not match the actual product listing, it can:
  • Confuse potential buyers who expect to pay the advertised lower price.
  • Lead to disputes, refunds, or negative customer experiences.
  • Damage credibility for both the creator and the TikTok Shop platform.
By enforcing this policy, TikTok Shop ensures that:
  • Viewers always receive clear and truthful information.
  • Shopping decisions are based on accurate and transparent pricing.
  • Sellers and creators maintain professionalism and compliance with consumer protection standards.

✅ Do's

To stay compliant and build shopper trust, creators and sellers should:
  • Be consistent: The price you say or show in your video or Live must match the listing price at the time of publishing.
  • Double check: Always verify the product price in your shop listing before posting the video or mentioning or displaying it in your LIVE.
  • Mention discounts clearly: If there's a discount, state it truthfully, for example,"Now only 79.99 Mexican pesos, down from 99.99 Mexican pesos".
  • Use a disclaimer: Remind viewers that prices may change, and that the final price is always shown on the product detail page.
  • Be clear & simple: Use easy-to-understand wording when mentioning price and avoid unnecessary complexity.Example: "This product is 150 Mexican pesos after discounts!" or "This is 100 Mexican pesos before vouchers!".

❌ Don'ts

  • No misleading prices: Never mention a price that is lower than the lowest listing price when posting a video or going LIVE.
  • No exaggeration: Do not claim "the cheapest ever" or "always this price" if it is not true.
  • No unreal discounts: Don't use higher original prices to make discounts look bigger.

✅ Best Practices

  • Creators can mention prices and discounts on TikTok Shop as long as the price mentioned is accurate and consistent with the TikTok Shop listing when your content is posted.
  • Clearly state the time period during which the promotional price applies in your video or livestream.Example: "6.6 event only."/"Valid during 6.6 only."
  • Always use a disclaimer to remind viewers that prices may change, and that the final price is always shown on the product detail page. Example:"Price may vary."/"Price subject to change."
  • Creators are responsible for keeping their content accurate. If you post a short video promoting a discounted product price and the price goes up later, you should remove the video unless it clearly states the limited time period of the discount within the content.

❌ Examples of Misleading Price Violations ⚠️

  • Saying "Only 50 MXN!" while the actual product price is 80 MXN.
  • Showing a price tag from an old promotion that has expired.
  • Displaying a lower price in the video, or mentioning a price in your livestream, that doesn't match the current listing at the time of posting.
